The Paley Center For Media

The Paley Center for Media is an all-encompassing media center. Its initial function, set out by William Paley, was to serve as a television and radio archive for the public.

Currently, the archive consists of over 160,000 television and radio programs. In addition to the media library, the Paley Center offers rotating exhibits, Paley Live panels, Screenings, and a Gaming Experience.

Visitor Services Intern

As an Intern for the Visitor Services department there was never a dull moment. The front desk, gaming exhibit, library, and group visits all report to the visitor services managers, so there is always something to do.

Throughout my internship I was trained in each area that deals with the forward facing aspect of the Paley Center. As well as working on more clerical tasks as well.

An average day for the internship involved lending a helping hand wherever was needed. As for the office work, I worked on continuous as well as one-time projects. Some continuous projects I worked on included updating and sending out the schedule, as well as sending out emails that involved the schedule or any updates for the VS and Gaming staff. I also worked on an ongoing scholars research project, and monthly attendance report.

Some one time projects I worked on included creating memos, marketing proposals, meeting proposals, forming new group visit rates, and helping out on all group visits and PaleyLive events.

This internship really allowed me to explore various aspects of working for a non-profit museum. During my time at the Paley Center I gained experience and knowledge in professional communication, team work, and time management. I also was able to experience what it takes to work and create Live events with celebrities, as well as learn about clerical work. Throughout the duration of my internship, I was constantly busy and always learning something new.
