Wilderness Collective is comprised of writers, photographers, and filmmakers that work to create a magazine, clothing, and trips. Their company is rooted in the statement, “Wilderness makes you better.” Working for this company offers a variety of routes. For instance, if I worked for public relations for this company, I would need to focus on press and reaching out to influencers or other media outlets. This channel of communication would call for a formal and clear writing approach. Although if I worked for social media for this company, it would allow me to create blog posts, take photographs, and post to social media accounts. These would all call for a more informal and personal writing approach to connect with a viewer. Additionally, this area would allow me to share my passion for how the trips they host inspire others to go outside and put themselves in situations outside of their comfort zones. Each route at this company would require writing effectively to communicate with a mass audience.

Similarly, working for social media for L.L. Bean would allow me to create content such as weekly challenges that would be engaging for followers, the public and the environment as a whole. Some challenges could involve cleanups or sustainability challenges. These posts would need to be eye-catching, enticing, and persuasive to receive high engagement and digital traffic to the post and entire page. Working in public relations for L.L. Bean would allow me to create lengthy plans for events and press releases. These would be under the same concept to promote cleanups and sustainability challenges, although it would be on a larger scale, and with other well-known brands attached to the events. These challenges and campaigns would promote being active citizens, and making mindful and informed decisions on everyday actions such as shopping, eating, and even exercising. The messages these events would communicate would positively represent and associate L.L. Bean with making a difference for communities and the environment. Promotional information about these events would need to be clear, concise, and persuasive.

Overall, working in social media and public relations requires quick thinking, writing skills, and exceptional communication skills, all of which I continue to develop throughout my undergraduate studies.
